Studies on the influential areas of energy sector indicate that, as the base of production, energy is one of the most important factors for creation of value-added (energy consumption in all sectors of industry, services, agriculture and transport will increase national wealth). On the other hand, energy carriers such as oil and gas can supply some primary needs of the households. Moreover, from international view, energy trade including export of oil, gas and electricity is a source of national strength and security. Therefore, energy has the power and capacity to play a considerable role in three areas of wealth creation, public welfare and international relations.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Crude oil export per se contributesup to 20 percent of the GDP of Iran; none of other industries has such a capacity and importance. This status, contributing a lion share of the country's GDP, is due to the manufacturers’ continuous need for oil as the base of their production (industries steel, cement, power plants and refineries). After crude oil, gas condensates and upstream petrochemical products play the most important role in supplying foreign currency for the country. Yet, optimizing energy consumption in various industries has high capacity for creating wealth and improving businesses productivity.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Iran has numerous advantages in the energy sector that highlight importance of considering the related issues:
 
   Giant oil and gas reservoirs;
 
  Large power capacity as the first producer of electrical energy in the Middle East and North Africa;
 
 
 
The biggest photovoltaic power plant in the country with the capacity of 14 MW is now ready for operation in Hamedan province
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
   Relatively large enterprises in both electricity and oil sectors;
 
   Widespread network of oil, gas, electricity;
 
  Having common borders with both energy consumer and energy supplier countries;
 
   Geopolitical advantage in the international oil and gas trends;
 
  Multiple resources and capacities for renewable energies development;
 
  Adequate human resources in technical knowledge for the areas of design, engineering and manufacturing ;
 
  Access to the requirements for development of downstream oil and gas industries;
 
  Adequate capacity to create job for people with different academic degrees.
 
 
 
Some of the achievements in energy sector are:
 
  Establishment and development of numerous research institutions, and facilitation of technology transfer through international cooperation;
 
   Development of new technologies by creating new infrastructures;
 
  Conducting applied studies to present practical approaches for the core issues of the energy sector;
 
   Launching manufacturing units in the oil and gas industry value chain;

B) Environment

 

Environment includes the water, soil, air, organisms, and all other external factors surrounding and affecting a given organism at any time, and environmental science is concerned with study of reciprocal relationship between the physical, chemical and biological components of an environment and organisms.
 
 
A review of the progress and development of technology in the recent century indicates that despite the enhancement of the welfare and apparently human health, the scale of human well-being has dropped; and instead, stress and refractory diseases, environmental degradation, climate change and other undesirable environmental effects have increased significantly.It seems that by continuation of this trend, people will move toward extinction and ultimately the impossibility of their and other creatures’ residence on the Earth.
 
 
On the other hand, economic developments providing prosperity for nations, especially the Asian countries, has usually increased environmental waste as a side effect. In addition, the relentless pace of development has expansively resulted in the climate change and destruction of the green fields.
 
 
Today, the environmental economics, as an important issue in most developing and developed countries, generally involves the following steps:
 
- Economic assessment of environmental effects;
 
- Finding the economic causes of these effects;
 
- Providing the necessary economic incentives to reduce, stop and reverse these effects.
 
 
Disposal loads of waste materials in inappropriate places can cause biological changes in the environment and damage to the ecosystem. Economists believe that if environmental damages negatively affect human health or welfare this will definitely result in economic consequences Current solution for environmental protection along with economic development is to improve technologies and use clean technologies with lower pollutants.
 
 
Increasing environmentalism has pushed various industries to establish a kind of balance between economic and environmental perspectives; and finally, protection and preservation of ecosystems can provide a reasonable image of the sustainable development.Iran has significant capacities in the field of environment and given the country's approach towards development, integrated and proper management of these capacities is very important.
 
 
Some of the achievements in the environment sector are:
 
- Culture-building, promotion and facilitation of renewable energy development;
 
- Culture-building, promotion and facilitation of clean transport development;
 
- Preparing the National Document of the Environmental Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) with climate change approach, and establishing a Leadership and Advisory Council for TNA;
 
- Bilateral and multilateral cooperation between national competent authorities for climate technologies in different countries;
 
- Membership in the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).
